1. Litchfield National Park

Ninety minutes south, Litchfield is the Territory's favourite backyard: Florence Falls for the early swim, Wangi for the long one, termite mounds for the photos. Private tours leave at 07:30 to beat the coach crowd, and the kitchen packs a hamper that has never once come back full.

2. Fogg Dam at Dawn

Forty-five minutes east, the wetland boardwalk at first light is a birdwatcher's opera — jabiru, kingfishers, and crocodiles doing what crocodiles do at a respectful distance. Back by lunch; leave the dawn alarm to us.

3. Darwin Harbour Sunset Sail

Two hours on a chartered yacht from Cullen Bay — the harbour turns the same copper as the beach, with champagne service and a skipper who knows every wreck story the water holds. Departs 17:00, returns for late dinner.

4. Larrakia Country Cultural Walk

Indigenous-led walks on Larrakia country through Indigenous-owned operators — bush tucker, season stories and the kind of context no guidebook holds. These book out furthest ahead; ask the desk first.

5. The Scenic Flight

When time is short: a 45-minute helicopter circuit from the airport helipad covers the harbour, the wetlands and the coastline in one pass. Wet season turns the falls to thunder — the flights run year-round, weather permitting.
